RESULTS SHOW: And the winner is...

The St Francis Dam Musical! Duration: 10 minutes maybe? Genre: Comedy, Parody Age: 13+ Language: English Ideal for people who love (put 3 elements, it can be whatever you want) Musicals, comedies and general tomfoolery Synopsis (100 words) In 1928 California, the people have just lost their homes to a giant flood caused by the breaking of the St Francis Dam! In order to raise funds for rebuilding their neighbourhood, they host a talent show voted by YOU!!! There will be music and a lot of terrible accents. Director’s Notes (150 words) My piece was influenced by the real events that happened almost 100 years ago, which I found out from the writer and youtuber Caitlin Doughty (look her up) and was inspired by. Many people’s lives were lost during the flood but remains forgotten to this day in terms of being the worst engineering disasters in 20th Century American history. The decision to make it a musical came from the quote ‘make what you enjoy’ which sent me spiralling down the parody musical path and my history growing up with 1950s musicals shouting ‘My Secret Love’ at age 10. Honestly, I just ran with this idea and had a blast making so I hope you enjoy! Experience Design (50 words min.) Please give the audience the ideal conditions to watch your video and enjoy the experience at its best. Feel free to design it as you want, including (if needed) things to be done, said, made, worn, drank, eaten, taken, etc The ideal conditions to watch this clip are on the big screen (Either a projection or TV), out loud on a speaker/s in a rickety old rocking chair, moonshine jug one hand and a banjo in the other, out on your American porch where you keep your double barrelled shotgun.

The Cabin After The Floods.

Title: The Cabin After The Floods. Duration: 10-12 minutes. Genre: Mockumentary. Language: English and Spanish. Ideal for people who love: self aware comedy, meta theatre and Charlie Mills. Synopsis: A cabin after floods explores controversial director Charlie Mills and what was meant to be his masterpiece debut into the Horror Genre. Disagreements between cast, crew and Charlie meant Cabin after the floods could never see the light of day. All that remains is this footage. Explore the Ego of director Mills in this short documentary and ask yourselves, could he really have been the next Hitchcock? Synopsis: (none theatrical synopsis) - The piece begins with a collection of interviews from charlie talking about how he thinks cabin after the floods is going to be the best horror film, we then start to see the cast and crew have interviews talking about charlie as well as some behind the scenes events like the eve disagreement and gabby not being used well. After all of these interviews we then see Charlie find out he has run out of time, making him cry and explode into a fit of rage. There is a title screen saying The Cabin In The Floods was never finished so they had to use the footage remaining to make the film. They then show a short version of the film, which is just not very good. Design experience for the audience: for when the horror film is played I think that the lights should be turned off and watched with headphones if it’s from a mobile device, this could be prompted by a slide within the video.I also think that people should make memes if they have the capability to do so.

Dying For a Pint. - Natalie Murphy

Title: Dying For a Pint. Time: 10 mins. Genre: Sitcom Age: 12 and up. Language: English. Ideal for people who love Cheers, Eastenders and the sort of jokes you get in Christmas Crackers. Synopsis : 1814.Tottenham Court Road. The Nag’s Head is a pub that lies next door to the Horseshoe Brewery and is full to the brim with a loyal set of patrons. The locals are pulling out all the stops to save their pub and keep it the way they like it: theirs. Two anthropologists, with a talent of putting their nose in things they shouldn’t, are interested in buying and would take the soul of the pub and twist it into something new. This is their place and they are the pub’s people. Who knows who will have the last laugh? Directors Notes: In 1814 there was a flood which happened after two wooden vats of beer exploded in the Horse Shoe Brewery and burst through the walls into St Giles Rookery, an overcrowded neighbourhood, home to a neglected and impoverished community, many of whom were Irish immigrants. The flood killed eight people, including four people at the wake of a two year old boy. The tale is undoubtedly a tragedy, it’s ridiculously sad. But something about these events sounds like a punchline. It’s so easy to make jokes about it, to take on the bizarreness and leave out the fact these were real people and real tragedies. It’s so easy to do that with everything. If we don’t laugh we cry but I don’t know how much it’s fair to laugh at things that aren’t ours. I don’t know how much it’s fair to get involved in things that aren’t ours, to take them as our own and use them however we see fit. This show is my brain processing these thoughts in the form of a weird tv pilot episode.
