state of the [art]
State of the [art] is an international arts organisation headed by Simone Giustinelli, Munotida Chinyanga and Laura Singleton. Focusing on facilitating interactive experiences for the members of the public who do not usually engage with the creativity and culture sector, and offer non-conventional approaches on contemporary performance practice to audiences who do both nationally and internationally.
This includes but is not limited to theatre performances, live events, masterclass/workshops and artist development projects. It was originally set up as an artist development programme founded in 2018, to give underrepresented artists from ages 18 - 30 based in the UK, the opportunity to train and develop work around Europe. We have worked under Creative Europe Funding and ERASMUS; producing shows, projects, masterclasses and workshops at The National Theatre of Rome and The National Institute of Ancient Drama, Sicily, and the Academy of Arts, Novi Sad. As well as producing work for the Republic of China YIYUAN TANG Museum with the British Council.
We are also Associate Artists/Company at Middlesex University for Theatre Arts, and work closely with Rose Bruford for European Theatre Arts and CSM: UAL for BA Performance. We work closely with educational establishments as our main aim is the diversification of practitioners within the arts and empowering disadvantaged artists to create their own platforms.
Put simply, we make shows, from small scale scratches, installations, videography to mid scale international exchanges with our partners around Europe and beyond. We lead Art Direction for events and art socials as well as event space design.
Performance and Production training - working with universities such as Middlesex University, we run an annual artist international development programme which gives students performance, design and technical training by facilitating the creation of a show that will then be performed at our partner venue Teatro India, The National Theatre of Rome.
We host, lead, facilitate and support workshops around contemporary collaborative practices as well as theatre design and audience participation, this included working with communities and activating spaces through theatre and technology.
An innovative and unique new media company placing theatre and performing arts in the context of contemporary culture and the world we live in - from how we dress, live and socialize; to what we eat, listen to and watch; as well as who leads and inspires us. Through entertaining video series, we will share the voices and conversations that define what it means to be a contemporary artist/venue/ organisation. What it means to make theatre.
We define ourselves according to these distinctions;

-
redefining spaces,
-
design-led performances,
-
the power of languages, accents and cultures on stage
-
challenging the role of the audience and allowing their participation to become a part of the performance itself.
-
development and training, giving opportunities to artist in training to create work on global scale.
